day one is done

9 Aug

talk about a long day!

Overview:

Up at 8 to be there at 9. One hour lunch break and finish at 5. I swear it’s like I work a 9-5!!!

Oh and then after rush stuff I ran to the bank then wal-mart then the apartment office (to bother them some MORE) then to the gym and was finally able to shower and eat. phew.

Now the deets:

This morning I tried out a version of HEAB’s overnight protein chia oats because I wasn’t sure how long I would be at the house and if we’d be allowed a lunch break so I wanted something that would hold me over.

I used 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 c water, 1 T chia seeds, raisins, cacao nibs, and 1/2 T cocoa powder. Then in the morning I added a little less than a scoop of sun warrior. It was delicious and filling, thanks HEAB!

Then you’ll never believe what I had for lunch. My first real fast food for months….the crepevine.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, the crepevine is a tallahassee eatery that makes all types of crepes from desserts to lunch to breakfast.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

So what did I order?

They have a make your own option so I got every veggie they had except jalepenos plus salt n peppa.

True, this is probably the healthiest crepe they’ve ever made and also true that it probably wasn’t that bad for me, but I’m going to admit something to you guys, it took alot for me to finally come to terms with it after I ate it.

Besides the fact that crepes aren’t vegan, There’s just something about the fact that it was fast food and that I didn’t know the ingredients that irked me. I know it shouldn’t but it did and I’m trying to learn to come to terms with not eating perfect all the time.

So why did I eat it? Because not only was I hungry, but I only brought a larabar (which I knew wouldn’t be healthy to ONLY have that for lunch) and I didn’t drive so I was at the mercy of where my friends wanted to eat and I hate being the weirdo that won’t eat normal food or the nagger who never wants to eat where everyone else wants to. So I sucked it up and made the best of the situation.

The whole time in the back of my head I just kept remembering all of my fav bloggers who are some of my role models for healthy eating and kept remembering how they indulge too and aren’t always perfect with their eating but they are ok with it because they are also happy with themselves.

So instead of dwelling on it I simply ate how I normally would for the rest of the day and had the larabar after sorority schtuff and a bowl of quinoa and veggies for dinner

all mashed up

that’s the good stuff

Apartment news: My walls were painted today!!! AND I’m getting new carpets….I’m so happyyyy!!!!!! I also found out that the reason my carpets are so messed up now is because the girl before had a dog (our apartment complex doesn’t allow animals) which makes all the scratch marks make a lot more sense. But there is also a red stain and a burn in the carpet from her hair straightener!!! urgh oh well i get new carpet πŸ™‚

and here is my partial workout schedule from july as promised! sorry it was in excel and i didn’t really know how to insert it in here

Larabars

27 Jul

Well i figured since I asked you what your favorite bar was I could at least answer my own question lol

So what’s my favorite bar?

Well Since I’ve gone vegan I really haven’t tried many and especially the fact that I don’t like how much added sugar is in some of the bars out there I have generally stuck to larabars and I must say I love them! I still haven’t tried all the flavors yet either so I’m loving being a little taste tester πŸ™‚

Not only are the ingredients lists short, natural, and gluten free, but they are delicious! The only other problem is that I don’t like coconut…I know, I’m weird. So now onto my fav flavors of LARABAR!!

I still have a few to try so I’ll keep you posted but I REALLLLY want to try the new carrot cake one! It sounds yummy.

Now onto today’s workout and random eats

Workout:

Shoulders- still on the same routine. I’m so excited it’s almost the end of the month so I can finally switch up my routine!

(workout from here)

cardio- 30 min. elliptical

my shoulders hurt 😦

Eats:

I decided it was a socca kind of day so I crisped mine and jazzed it up with salt, garlic pepper, and flax seeds. Some flax fell in the pan and kept popping up and hitting me 😦

Then I smeared it with some black bean dip, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast, a couple leaves of spinach and called it a day. Perfect!

Have you tried socca yet? If not, GO MAKE SOME NOW! If you have, how do you eat your socca?

Pump Up Music

25 Jul

Can’t find the motivation to keep running?

Why not switch up your music?

What’s my fav running/workout jams?

and why am I asking so many rhetorical questions?

Let’s just do this!

MUSIC

I’m partial to this crazy little white guy

Girl Talk is a DJ that mixes up some crazy beats that always keep me pumped up.

And then there’s this guy

yet another DJ (are you sensing a pattern?)

then there’s the BEP

can’t go wrong there

And of course there is Lady Gaga, Usher, Flo Rida, 3Oh!3, Justin Timberlake (especially FutureSex/Lovesounds), and so many more

*Btw I’m not so into the radio or the “what’s hot right now” songs. I hate how over played they are commercialized but if I’m still liking it after it isn’t “hot” anymore, then I’ll buy it πŸ™‚ *

Hope this puts a little pep in your step!

What kind of music gets you pumped?

Chocolate Mascarpone Brownies

7 Jul

Hey guys!

Arms. are. killing. right. now………….hard. to. type. jk lol but I did have a pretty awesome chest workout today. I think it’s the combo of today’s workout on top of yesterday’s that’s making me really feel it.

Today’s workout:

warm-up was 10 min. on the treadmill at 10.0 incline/3.5 mph

chest + abs

(exercises from here)

Random eats:

I finally made the perfect wrap!!! I was so excited because everytime I go to a health food store for a wrap they always make it so perfect. Who knew making a wrap was difficult…not me but this one was finally pretty enough to photograph (and delicious too!)

before-

after-

not even a sprout fell out of this baby!

Later in the night bebler requested a special dessert so off to club pub for me! I found a recipe for chocolate mascarpone brownies so I lazied it up and got these ingredients instead

yup I’m lazy.

after baking…

and all jazzed up with it’s chocolate ganache

oh ya baby. Apparently It tastes like chocolate lava cake πŸ™‚

And don’t worry….I didn’t forget about myself

dark chocolate protein cake with frozen bananas and almond butta on top

I don’t know about you but I call this success πŸ™‚

Cleaning out my closet

15 Jun

Don’t you hate when you have something planned out in your head and then your forced to change it?

Well last night I decided that I would do body pump this morning and maybe some cardio but didn’t check the schedule to make sure the class was today. Of course it wasn’t. It was yogalates and def not what I was in the mood for but it actually turned out to be a really good thing because I realized I’ve been missing my cardio πŸ™‚

today’s workout:

10 min. jog at 6.5 mph/0 incline; followed by 5 min. walking at 4 mph/5 incline – then repeat for a total of 30 min.

followed by 15 min. on the elliptical at level 7 and 15 min. of abs and back = 1 hour workout

When I got home I had the usual green smoothie with some of these bad boys

ya I know they’re probable genetically modified to make them that huge but I don’t care, these puppies are glorious

yum!

As for the curry last night, it was a hit! My parents loved it and my mom said it was SPICY SPICY SPICY!! So beware if you go to make curry using that spice packet. My mom loves spicy food though so she was in heaven.

*News update*- So I completely forgot to mention the fact that in less than a week I will be moving! Yup no more lounging around at home with nothing to do. It’s finally time for summer school and I’m soooooooo excited because I’m finally living in an apartment (no more dormsssss!!!!) AND I’m living with giraffe and one of his frat bros for the summer πŸ™‚ Get ready for craziness ahhhh!

So where am i moving to you ask? I’ll give you some hints-

  • It’s in Florida
  • It’s north of Orlando
  • It’s a public University
  • Our mascot isn’t an animal
  • It’s the capitol of FL
  • It’s freakin rage

If you still haven’t guessed it I’m a Seminole! I can’t tell you how excited I am to get back to Tally. My freshman year seriously went by way to fast and I feel like I didn’t take full advantage of it so this year I’m planning on going out a lot more and going on all the trips/ date functions/ socials i can!

Since I only have a little time left at home I’ve started to buckle down on the things I need to get done. One of which is clean out my closetAnd no that’s not all of it

And even that’s not all but you get the idea.

So far this is what I’ve accomplished

It’s a start.I really liked what Angela had to say about getting rid of clothes- if I haven’t worn it in a full calendar year (all types of weather!) it gets donated.” So I used that rule of thumb while sorting out the keep and dump piles and it reallllly helped. Thanks girl!

What do you guys do with your old clothes?

– I usually just give it to my mom and she’ll sometimes give it to people she knows who are less fortunate or send it to family we have in Brazil.

Hot to Trot

8 Jun

I honestly don’t know what I would do without the internet. Seriously!?#$%

Only through my random stumbling around the web did I discover the raw diet and revive my meatless lifestyle. Without my stumbling I would have never found such an awesome blogging community and would have NEVER been inspired to start my own blog. Although I am just starting out, I am truly grateful for everyone’s comments, support, and kindness thus far. PLEASE keep writing to me and letting me know you’re out there because you guys are what keep me inspired and motivated.

Anyhoo. As I was saying before I digressed, the web is filled with so much information and I get soo excited when I discover a hidden treasure that really interests me. Well last night after randomly looking up a workout on youtube did I find Zuzana’s workout videos for her blog bodyrock.tv. This was definately not love at first sight though and on first glance I thought her “working out” was just a form of soft core porn for pervs on youtube (sorry to be blunt). But after looking at her blog and checking out a couple more videos (as well as being completely envious of her abs) I fell in love with what she was saying (just try to get past the cleavage).

Since my goal these days is to tone, I want to try her workouts out since they are plyometric based. All of her workouts are around 20 minutes but they are HIGH intensity and will leave you out of breath for sure. They usually don’t reqiure anything but a timer so you can workout at home. I was so inspired that this morning I tried the hot to trot workout. I was definitely out of breath but I think I’m going to have to get used to such a short workout and my elbos is hurting alittle from the monkey push-ups other than that I was sweating like a pig so I’ll keep updating you guys on my progress!

I’m off to the beach, byez!

Just do it.

1 Jun

I want to talk a little bit about self motivation.

Today was turned out to be one of those days where I was completely against working out, but if given any excuse to not go I would take it in a heartbeat. I’ve been noticing that I feel this way a lot lately but I know that’s only because it’s summer and I have nothing to get done therefore no motivation to do anything.

Anyways, what tends to happen is if i=I don’t workout first thing in the morning then I tend to just not go to the gym at all (being I’m a morning workout person and HATE working out at night). So I made my usual green smoothie and ran some errands. All day I found myself lagging a little and wishing I had worked out but not really wanting to actually do it.

I convinced myself around dinner time and ended up having a pretty decent 4 mile run followed by about 10 minutes in the sauna. Now, I feel AWESOME and finally got an energy jolt.

Sometimes my body truly astonishes me. It literally only takes me getting into my workout clothes and walking out my front door for me to “get in the mood” to workout. On days where I think I’m going to have a terrible workout, I tend to find myself pushing to make it better.

My point with all this is to say that even if you think you can’t do it, you can. You may think your mind is telling you one thing but by simply changing your surroundings or repeating a motivational phrase and DOING IT you’ll find that your body knows best and it wants you to find that push to get things going.

Motivation tips TO workout:

  • Put your workout clothes on. Simple but effective. I always feel to guilty to take it off so I tell myself I’ll go for a “short/light” workout and somehow find that I’m pushing myself harder and harder during the workout.
  • Get a membership to a gym that is no more than 5 minutes from your house. Chances are that you’ll prob be more motivated if you inconvenience yourself as little as possible.
  • Sign up for a class. If your workout is already scheduled then you already made time for it. You can’t quit now!

Motivation tips WHILE working out:

  • I ALWAYS workout with music and a magazine. I swear I can zone out like no other when I’m reading a magazine on the stair master but i still manage to squeeze my buns in the process ;). Find something that keeps you from getting bored and focusing on how much time is left in your workout.
  • I like to break the time up. For instance, when i run 30 minutes and I find myself already wishing I was done at 8 minutes, tell yourself only 2 more minutes and you’re already 1/3 done!
  • Mix up your workout. If you always do the elliptical machine then try the bike, etc.
  • Do a bunch of machines for shorter amounts of time. When I’m getting bored doing only one type of cardio machine I’ll do 10 min. running, 10 min. elliptical, and 10 min. stair-master= 30 min. cardio done BOOM!
  • If you only like doing ONE thing such as the treadmill, try doing intervals instead of running at a solid pace. I find that intervals really make the time fly by.

Anyways these are just some of my personal tips. I hope they help! What do you do to stay motivated?
